A word from the Sponsors

Dorset Business (the Chamber of Commerce & Industry)
Founded in 1949, Dorset Business (the Chamber of Commerce & Industry for Dorset) is the leading independent private sector business support organisation for businesses of all sizes, in all sectors, in Dorset.  As a Membership organisation we are funded predominantly by our 800 Members’ subscriptions, but also through a growing number of public sector contracts and an increasing array of innovative commercial activities including training programmes, and conferences & seminars.

Building on our long tradition of serving the business community in Dorset, we work to further the interests of our Members through a wide range of activities, including:

  • Networking breakfasts, lunches and dinners, ranging from thematic to social, and from small groups to large-scale high-profile Business Awards;
  • Marketing and PR opportunities (including editorial space in our publications such as our well-respected magazine, “Dorset Business”);
  • Business-to-Business services, such as discounted rates on goods and services provided by Members for Members;
  • An international market development programme and documentation service;
  • Access to affinity benefits such as legal and commercial advice, discounted insurance, and HR support services which we are able to offer as part of our Membership of the British Chambers of Commerce (Dorset Business is the only Chamber of Commerce in the South West that meets the BCC’s stringent accreditation standards); and
  • Community-based initiatives to better integrate businesses and the communities within which they are located.

And for those Members who seek lobbying support, we act on behalf of our Members as “the voice of business in Dorset”. We provide businesses with a powerful lobbying forum to influence key policy/decision makers. We have access to regional/national government, and the local M.P.’s, enterprise bodies, and the Local Authorities, with whom we have close working relationships. And Dorset Business is a primary representative of business interests on all of the key local forums including economic development, the environment, transport, and skills & learning.

Environmental Surveyors
The Code for Sustainable Homes is the environmental assessment method for new housing in England. The Code aims to protect the environment by providing guidance on the construction of high performance homes built with sustainability and working towards zero carbon. Developers are able to obtain a ‘star rating’ for any new home which will demonstrate its environmental performance. This provides valuable information and a mark of quality to home buyers, and offers developers a tool with which to promote themselves.

The Code is based on the Building Research Establishment’s (BRE’s) Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) where all house types within a development will be assessed under 9 key categories. These assessments can be undertaken by P H Warr plc whose environmental surveyors are trained and monitored by the BRE.

P H Warr plc is also United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited to undertake Type I, II and III asbestos surveys. By having this accreditation, our clients have the reassurance that our surveys are quality assured and meet the standards set by UKAS. P H Warr plc is independent and not linked to any third parties such as asbestos removal contractors. We act with integrity and solely in the interests of our clients.

P H Warr plc is committed to reducing its environmental impact whilst building a business full of diverse talents, skills and experiences. The company has decided to sponsor the Sustainable Building Award to recognise those Dorset businesses that promote and demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development.
