Founded in 1949, Dorset Business (the Chamber of Commerce & Industry for Dorset) is the leading independent private sector business support organisation for businesses of all sizes, in all sectors, in Dorset. As a Membership organisation we are funded predominantly by our 800 Members’ subscriptions, but also through a number of new public sector contracts and an increasing array of innovative commercial activities including conferences & seminars, and training programmes.

Building on our long tradition of serving the business community in Dorset, we work to further the interests of our Members through a wide range of activities, including:

Marketing and PR opportunities (including editorial space in our publications such as our well-respected magazine, “Dorset Business”).
Business-to-Business services, such as discounted rates on goods and services provided by Members for Members.
Networking breakfasts, lunches and dinners, ranging from thematic to social, and from small groups to large-scale high-profile Business Awards.
An international documentation service and market development programme.
Community-based initiatives to better integrate businesses and the communities within which they are located.
Access to affinity benefits such as legal and commercial advice, discounted insurance, and HR support services which we are able to offer as part of our Membership of the British Chambers of Commerce (Dorset Business is the only Chamber of Commerce in the South West that meets the BCC’s stringent accreditation standards).

And for those Members who seek lobbying support, we act on behalf of our Members as “the voice of business in Dorset”. We provide businesses with a powerful lobbying forum to influence key policy/decision makers. We have access to regional/national government, and the local M.P.’s, enterprise bodies, and the Local Authorities, with whom we have close working relationships. And Dorset Business is a primary representative of business interests on all of the key local forums including economic development, transport, skills & learning, and the environment.

Description of the Award from sponsors

We are looking for a business (large or small) that embodies the very spirit of Dorset. By this we mean a passion for Dorset and what it represents to those of us fortunate to live and work here. A business that values the quality of life, our infrastructure, locational advantages, skilled workforce, enviable educational facilities and vibrant economy – all the aspects that would make any business proud to be associated with Dorset and be its ambassador.

Entry Criteria/Eligibility

Entrant must be a member of Dorset Business (Chamber of Commerce & Industry).
Entrant must have been based in Dorset for at least the past 2 years.
The majority of employees must be resident in Dorset.
Business must be turning-over at least £150,000 per annum.
Entrant must promote “Dorset” in their corporate literature/website etc.

Entry Deadline

Closing date for Nominations is Friday 29th September 2006.

Judging will commence in October 2006.

The 12th Annual Dorset Business Awards, organised for the very first time by Dorset Business (the Chamber of Commerce and Industry) are now closed for entries.

Judging is taking place during the month of October and if you have entered an award you will be contacted directly by the awards sponsors to let you know if you have been chosen as a finalist.
