2015 DBA Winners News: Health-on-Line staff show off their hideous Christmas jumpers for charity

Last week Health-on-Line staff were encouraged to show off their hideous Christmas knitwear to raise money for food bank, Hope For Food.

It’s not every day your encouraged to come into work in your most hideous Christmas jumper but at Health-on-Line they like to do things a bit differently. As part of the Company’s continuing support for local charity, Hope For Food staff from its office in Bournemouth were asked to take part in a ‘Hideous Christmas Jumper Day’ competition and give a donation to the charity. Employees were judged within three categories which included ‘Best Homemade Christmas Outfit’, ‘Best Christmas Jumper’ and ‘Best Christmas Dress/Onesie’, the day was a great success with staff managing to raise £300.

So far employees from Health-on-Line have kindly donated around £1,000 worth of food and daily essentials such as tinned vegetables to luxuries such as mince pies. All money raised from Friday’s ‘Hideous Christmas Jumper Day’ will be used to purchase more food and daily essentials for the charity, via care packs.    

Fiona Carter, a member of the Health-on-Line Charity Panel explains, “It was a great chance for staff to get in the festive spirit the week before Christmas and it was opportunity to highlight the importance of supporting charities like Hope For Food. During this time of year many us take for granted the amount of food and drink we consume especially during the holiday period, this collection has brought to light how some families in the Dorset area might not be as fortunate, and how we can help improve their quality of life.”

Hope for Food was founded in 2012 with the aim of providing life’s basic essentials on a day to day basis to people in need of help due to the current economic climate. The charity runs three soup kitchens a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings and also have a large stock of food items, clothes, shoes and bedding donated by their supporters. This initiative falls under the Company’s ongoing CSR programme which has been put in place to support local community and charities throughout 2015. The programme has included sponsorship of under 9’s football team Dexters, the support of community project, Shore Ideas and the raising of vital funds for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Mosaic, Julias House, Busy Bees Nursery, Diverse Abilities and Lewis Manning Hospice.
